Perhaps the biggest draw in Zuco 103's music, besides the stellar arrangements and vibrant electronic instrumentals, is Lilian Vieira's voice. Jussara continues to be one of my favorite tracks ever mostly due to the fact that it's her voice that croons over the soft, lush bossa rhythm. So it's not surprising that even when the rhythm and arrangements are outside Zuco's control and rather remixed and remastered by an excellent cast of DJs and producers, as in the recent album of Zuco 103 remixes, After the Carnaval Retouched, Lilian's voice still holds her own and adds a distinct sensuality to the music. The Retouched version of Zuco's album After the Carnaval features work by DJ Patife, Primal View, Waft Corp, Bossacucanova, among others. The Holland-based, Euro-Brazilian trio that is Zuco 103 continues to fun, sophisticated, eclectic music. My favorite tracks on this remix album are best enjoyed when the lights are dim and those wine glasses are close to empty. It's when the conversation is engrossing but your mind is yearning for music that complements the mood. Zuco 103 is that music: Volta, remixed by Bossacucanova, Pica Pau, a Zuco 103 original, and the aptly named Madrugrada, remixed by Primal View. Excellent reworks that respect the originals. Time for that refill...
Volta (Bossacucanova Remix)
Pica Pau
Madrugada (Primal View Remix)
