A Melhor Rima de Sempre, by Orelha Negra feat. Valete

Over the last few days I've been bopping my head to Portuguese group Orelha Negra's latest mixtape. Orelha Negra, literally translating to "Black Ear", will soon be talked about here in the Lounge - they are a very talented group that creates transcendent urban beats steeped in black musicality, including jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop. The mixtape that I've been listening to is their latest creation, and in it they feature my favorite rapper, Valete, in 'A Melhor Rima de Sempre', literally translating to "The Best Rhyme Ever". It's one of Valete's most personal songs to date, an ode to his best friend and fellow rapper Adamastor in which Valete recounts his journey from a booed unknown to one of the most respected names in Lusophone hip-hop. The moody, sublime production work was sampled and created by Orelha Negra, and on it Valete spills his guts, calling on Adamastor to return to the hip-hop game. In the end, he asks where all the pioneers of Lusophone rap, in particular Portuguese rap, have gone.

A Melhor Rima de Sempre

Durante os últimos dias tenho estado a ouvir a mixtape do grupo português Orelha Negra, que brevemente terá o seu próprio post aqui no Lounge. É um grupo que faz música transcendente inspirada na black culture, uma mistura potente de jazz, funk, soul e hip-hop, com resultados fenómenais. Entre tais resultados está esta tal mixtape, onde podemos encontrar uma das mais novas músicas do meu rapper preferido, o Valete, chamada 'A Melhor Rima de Sempre'. É uma das músicas mais marcantes e pessois do Keides Lima, uma música em que ele presta homenagem ao seu grande amigo e companheiro de hip-hop, o grande Adamastor. A produção da música, a cargo da Orelha Negra, é coisa de outro mundo, desde o começo ao fim. É coisa de quem percebe de sampling e mixagem. E a letra do Valete requer atenção para quem quer realmente saber a sua história no mundo do hip-hop, a história de um desconhecido que com muita perseverância, esforço e suor se tornou numa das principais personagens do hip-hop lusófono e não só.
