Editor's Pick: The Top 11 Songs of the Last Six Months (Vol. 3)

Incredibly, six more months have gone by. And with it comes another Editor's Pick list, highlighting the best songs that have been posted on the Lounge over the past half-year. As always, only bonafide Lusophone songs are profiled on these lists, so I cannot include such treasures as Paco de Lucía's Entre dos Aguas, Finley Quaye's Even After All, Zero 7's In the Waiting Line or Q-Tip's duet with Norah Jones, Life is Better. Rather, this Top 11 list serves to highlight the best that Lusophone music had to offer over the past six months, through the lens of Caipirinha Lounge. Of course, that doesn't mean that the songs on this list were released in the last six months, but rather that they were posted here during that period of time. Writing this blog has been a journey for me, and the music on display here has shaped, influenced, and provided the background for different moments in my life. The power of music is something else.

Among the highlights of this list are the inclusion of two 'old' kizombas that I only listened to now, in the form of Amor Melaço by Irmãos Almeida (a tip from my cousin Victor) and Isabella by Irmãos Verdade, two kizombas that I'm absolutely in love with; the inclusion of not one but two songs by the stunning Maria Gadú (a tip from my friend Renzo, and, as later noticed, mentioned by Keita in his interview); a thumping kuduro in the form of Alegria, and the hardest decision for number 1 song of any of the lists I've made. Feel free to voice your disagreements with this list, comment, discuss, lament, interact...I look forward to the next 6 months of music and I hope you do too!
