Suzanna Lubrano

She has arguably the best voice in the kizomba genre. And she is beautiful. I learned to dance kizomba listening to her albums. Her name is Suzanna Lubrano, and she is one of Cape Verde’s most successful kizomba singers. Her third studio album, Tudo Pa Bo, led to her winning the prestigious Kora All African Music Awards as Africa’s Best Female Artist of 2003. Suzanna is Cape Verdean but like many of her countrymen, she immigrated to the Netherlands and is now based in Rotterdam. Her music of choice is kizomba, but she also experiments with R&B and in her latest album, Festa Mascarado, she went so far as to do a rap of sorts featuring the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes of TLC. People (myself included?) like to throw around phrases such as “her voice is like honey” but if there ever was such a voice, Suzanna has it. It’s soft and sweet, and she displays it beautifully in Nha Sonho and Ignora, both songs from her heralded Tudo Pa Bo album. And for an added treat, posted here is a duet she did with her one time lover Beto Dias, considered by some (myself included!) to be one of the best kizombas ever recorded: Ki Vida.

Ela tem talvez a melhor voz no mundo da kizomba. E ela é simplesmente linda. Aprendi a dançar kizomba ao som do seu álbum. Para quem não a conhece, chama-se Suzanna Lubrano, e é uma das cantoras mais bem- sucedidas de Cabo Verde. O seu terceiro álbum a solo, Tudo Pa Bo, fez com que ela ganhasse os Kora All African Music Awards como a Melhor Cantora Africana de 2003. Suzanna Lubrano é de Cabo Verde, mas como muitos dos seus patrícios, emigrou para a Holanda e agora vive em Roterdão. O seu estilo de musica de eleição é a kizomba, mas de vez em quando também canta em estilo R&B. No seu ultimo álbum, Festa Mascarado, ate se aventurou a fazer um rap com a falecida Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes dos antigos TLC. Muita gente (inclusive eu?) gosta de dizer a frase “a sua voz é como mel” a torta e a direita, mas a voz de Suzanna é mesmo como mel, doce e suave. Nas canções Nha Sonho e Ignora, do seu álbum Tudo Pa Bo, nota-se que ela sabe cantar e que a sua voz é singular. E também inclui aqui a canção que muitos (inclusive eu!) consideram ser uma das melhores kizombas jamais feitas: Ki Vida, o dueto que ela faz com o seu ex-namorado Beto Dias.
