Redemption Song, by Prince Wadada

Prince Wadada
Unfortunately I know very little of one of Angola’s most well-known reggae artists, Prince Wadada. The man has been living in Portugal since 1998 and has released several well received albums, but for some reason they never made it to my eardrums; but, I have heard him in several Grasspoppers compilations. This past week however I caught wind of his Redemption Song remix and was surprisingly hooked. Redemption Song is among my favorite Bob Marley and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a remix I liked…until I heard this one. Perhaps because the genre of choice is close to home. Prince Wadada managed to reinterpret the song Soukous-style; soukous is an enormously popular musical style popular throughout the Congos, northern and eastern Angola, Eastern Africa and beyond. It works quite well with this song, and it’s almost as if Bob Marley came home. Look for it on Prince Wadada’s upcoming release, Dança na Buála, coming out on the 16th of this month.

Redemption Song (Sokous Remix)

Not bad, but you can't out-Bob Marley, Bob Marley. However, you should do a post on Portuguese covers of well known English songs in the near future.. it'd be a nice intro into the genre for those of us w/ English ears
