Editor's Pick: The Top 11 Songs of the Last Six Months (Vol. 5)

I noticed that so far there are 134 less posts this year than 2010's total. It's been interesting, humorous even, to see the correlation between gainful employment (and living in New York) versus time spent blogging. Gone are the days of lazy lounging and boundless time to listen to and scope new Lusophone music. But, hopefully, the quality of the music on offer here at the Lounge will offset the quantity of posts. As always, the "Editor's Pick" list highlights the best songs that have been posted on the Lounge over the past half-year, and only bonafide Lusophone songs are profiled on these lists; I don't include all the 'not sung in Portuguese' beauties that fill up the Late Nite Lounge Series and the Caipirinha Lounge Jazz Sessions. The Top 11 list serves to highlight the best Lusophone music that the Lounge has posted over the last six-months; of course, that doesn't mean that the songs on this list were released in the last six months, but rather that they were posted here during that period of time.

Perhaps the two most important highlights of the Lusophone music I've listened to and shared with you over the last six months have been the release of the Grasspopper's Lover's Rock Inna Week and the emphatic resurgence of the São Paulo music scene, which saw strong releases over this and the last couple of years by the very talented Thiago Pethit, Tiê, Mariana Aydar, and Tulipa. Their music has been amongst my favorite to listen to recently. They've been immense. As you'll see from the number one spot on this list, so has the Grasspoppers collective in Lisbon; only they know the sort of inspiration that allows them to craft such a work of art in only one week. Other appearances include Seu Jorge with a jam from his Músicas Para Churrasco album, Coca o FSM's best 6tacool series song to date, and a duet by Mayra Andrade and Mariana Aydar. Click play below and have a listen to 11 songs that highlight the vibrant diversity of Lusophone music.
