A Coruja e o Coração, by Tiê

Tiê is among my favorite musical discoveries of this year. I fell in love not only with her music but with her the manner with which she approaches her music, the honesty and introspection of her lyrics, and the intimate nature with which she invites us to share her compositions. So I was quite excited to hear her sophomore album, A Coruja e o Coração. However I have to say that after several listens I wasn’t quite as impressed; the magic of Sweet Jardim just wasn’t there for me. Perhaps it was always going to be an uphill battle to surpass Sweet Jardim, an album I hold in very high esteem. Nevertheless A Coruja e a Coração is a good album and it’s very accessible, it just lacks that extra ingredient that made Sweet Jardim so special. You don’t find in it any songs with the caliber of Assinado Eu or A Bailarina e o Astronauta. Among the standout songs in her second album is her rendition of Mapa Mundi, which Tiago Pethit sings here, and Te Mereço, which is her song Te Valorizo from her first album but with different lyrics. Good songs, good album, but not the same musical greatness, the same breath of fresh air that was Sweet Jardim.

A Tiê foi uma das minhas descobertas preferidas este ano. Apaixonei-me não só pela sua música mas também pela sua forma cantar, o teor franco e honesto das suas letras, e a intimidade com que ela nos convida a partilhar o seu mundo através das suas composições. Foi então com muito prazer e ansiedade em mistura que obtive o seu segundo CD, A Coruja e o Coração. Devo confessar, porém, que após várias audições não sinto a mesma magia do Sweet Jardim, um álbum quase perfeto que em abono da verdade seria bastante difícil de superar. Contudo, A Coruja e o Coração é um álbum alegre e acessível, recheado de boas canções. Só não encontras músicas do calibre de Assinado Eu ou A Bailarina e o Astronauta. Entre as músicas que achei interessante neste segundo álbum está a versão Tiê de Mapa Mundi, cuja versão Tiago Pethit os leitores podem escutar aqui, e Te Mereço, feito à semelhança de Te Valorizo do primeiro disco da Tiê. Enfim, músicas doces, mas não tão doces quanto o melaço auricular que foi Sweet Jardim.
