Some albums get better with age, and Protegid by Carmen Souza is one of them. It’s the type of album that evolves with time (or maybe it’s you that’s evolving?), where the first listen is markedly different than the fifth, or the tenth, and so on. A couple of days ago I was relaxing at home when M sta li ma bo came on; although I had listened to it before, this time it seemed changed somehow. It fit my mood and my disposition perfectly, as great music always tends to do when played at the right times. I ended up listening to the entire album again, relishing its new flavor. As Protegid’s first track, M sta li ma bo is a fitting opener to a stellar album.

Alguns álbuns amadurecem com o tempo, e Protegid, da luso-caboverdiana Carmen Souza, é um deles. É o tipo de álbum que evolve com o tempo (ou somos nós que evoluimos?), o tipo de álbum em que a primeira audição é deveras diferente da quinta, ou da décima, e por aí em diante. Uns dias atrás estava a relaxar em casa quando da aparelhagem surgiu M sta li ma bo; já o tinha escutado antes mais desta vez algo era diferente, melhor, mais doce. Mais em sintonia com a minha disposição actual. Acabei por ouvir o álbum por completo, outra vez, deliciando-me com o seu novo sabor. Como a primeira faixa de Protegid, M sta li ma bo é a abertura certa para um álbum lindo.
