House Music Made in Angola, Vol. 2 – DJ Jesus

Chillout LuandaI have not read the passage in the Bible in which it is mentioned that the Son of God was not only a carpenter but also a skilled DJ, but I do promise that that lame attempt at a joke is my first and last regarding the peculiar choice of name of this up and coming Angolan artist.

The alluring lounge pictured above, called Chillout Bar/Lounge, located on the famous Luanda peninsula we refer to as the Ilha, is exactly the sort of place where tracks like Promess and The Thanks entice partygoers from Luanda and abroad. The times I have been to this place have been intoxicating…it is something about the sea breeze caressing your face, the caipirinhas mixing and mingling in your bloodstream, the white couches and the diverse group of people dancing along with you…DJ Jesus music is like the perfect touch, the little element that brings it all together. His version of house has a simple kuduro/kizomba-influenced beat and is heavy on the strings ; it will remind you a lot of Bob Sinclar and our well known DJ Furreta. Needless to say, the three tracks posted here, and especially Crazy Love, are prerequisites for any decent Angolan party or club night.

Promess
The Thanks
Crazy Love

I can't help but be reminded of South African house too, almost even than the Kuduro influence. The track Humba Yaya, also stupid brilliant. I wish I knew what the lyrics were about.
