Canto Pro Mar, by Manu Santos

Here in Boston today, it rains. Incessantly. So high is the number of meteorological references in this blog, I could forgive you for thinking I'm the local weatherman. But the weather has a large impact on the music I listen to at a particular moment in time. Sometimes it even impacts the sort of music I listen to during the entire day. This particular February 23, as the cold rain pounds down on the pavement and the wind howls menacingly outside, I opted for Manu Santos from the relative comfort of my apartment. When that song is playing on my headphones, it seems that the rain is so far away. I like Canto Pro Mar because, like any quality song, it has the ability to take you somewhere else, if only for a couple of minutes. It's this sort of mellow, soothing MPB that Manu Santos is quite good at, and with a fulsome voice like hers, it makes for beautiful listening. Maybe it's a bit more effective than "rain, rain go away" for making it seem like the rain is gone and you're sitting next to your favorite spot on the sand in Leblon in front of the rolling waves...

Hoje em Boston, chove. Sem parar. Sei que são tantas as referências meteorológicas neste blog, que devem pensar que sou o weatherman de serviço. Mas sinceramente, o tempo tem um forte impacto no tipo de música que eu oiço num determinado momento, ou mesmo o dia inteiro. Neste dia em particlar, o vigésimo terceiro dia de fevereiro, enquanto a chuva bate intensamente contra o asfalto e o vento grita de emoção, escolhi a música Canto Pro Mar da Manu Santos para me fazer sentir como se estivesse a disfrutar de um dia ensolarado. Quando Canto Pro Mar toca nos meus headphones, até parece que a chuva nem está nem aí. Porque como qualquer música de qualidade, transporta-nos para outros lugares, para longe. Nem que for por uns meros segundos. É este o tipo de MPB que a Manu Santos canta, e muito bem. Tem uma voz que dá gusto ouvir, e quando a oiço, sou transportado para o meu lugar preferido na praia do Leblon, vendo as ondas do mar, sossegado…
