Ellen Oléria

Her jazz is beautiful and evocative, her voice earthy and robust, but tender. Ellen Oléria is one of the newest and most talented additions to Brazil's burgeoning MPB movement. She dabbles effortlessly between contemporary Brazilian jazz and classic MPB, but has time to try her skills at rap, funk, samba, and pop. The music she creates is an amalgam of all those different genres, sung and interpreted in her own unique style. I was introduced to her music by Keita Mayanda, who effusively sung her praises. I immediately went to search for her on Google, only to come up with nothing. It's amazing what adding .br does to Google search results when you're looking for Brazilian musicians.

Ellen burst into Brazil's music scene in 2009, with the release of her debut album Peça. It is a kaleidoscope of musical genres focusing on jazz and samba, in which she displays the full, enticing range of her voice and aural versatility. Among the standout tracks of Peça are Ato II, perhaps my favorite song on the album, Natural Luz, and Não Lugar. Gentle, swaying, jazzy tunes for those late night sessions where time moves slowly and the music sounds eternal. The emotion and feeling on these songs are contagious, for Ellen Oléria sings with soul and gusto. What a great debut into the mind and heart of Brasília's newest and most promising musical graduate.

O seu jazz é lindo e faz pedir mais. A sua voz, tenra mas forte ao mesmo tempo. A Ellen Oléria é uma das mais novas e mais talentosas adições à MPB, alternando entre o jazz brasileiro, o rap, funk, samba, e pop. A música que ela cria e canta com tanto amor é uma mistura entre estes diversos estilos, sussurradas ao seu próprio estilo. Fui intrudizido a ela pelo Keita Mayanda, qeu controu-me maravilhas sobre ela. Vasculhei por ela no Google sem encontrar nada. É curioso o que adicionar uns simples .br faz às vasculhas do Google sobre cantores brasileiros.

A Ellen conquistou o seu espaço na música brasileira em 2009 com o lançamento do seu álbum Peça. É uma boa amostar da sua versitalidade com o jazz e o samba, adocicados pela sua voz. As minhas músicas neste CD são Ato II (talvez a minha preferida), Natural Luz, e Não Lugar. Brindes tenros e jazzísticos para noites longas onde o tempo quase que nem anda a música parece eterna. A emoção nestas músicas é palpível porque a Ellen canta com soul. Boa estreia de uma das promessas da música brasileira contemporânea.
